Ensure Compliance with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code
The Insight solution can manage an organisation's risk by ensuring compliance with the mandatory rules and regulations and that applicable codes, guidelines and standards recommended by the organisation, administrators, classification societies and maritime industry organisations are taken into account.
The International Safety Management (ISM) Code states in Section 1.4 that:
"Every Company should develop, implement and maintain a safety management system which includes the following functional requirements:
- 1. A safety and environmental-protection policy
- 2. Instructions and procedures to ensure safe operation of ships and protection of the environment in compliance with relevant international and flag State legislation
- 3. Defined levels of authority and lines of communication between, and amongst, shore and shipboard personnel
- 4. Procedures for reporting accidents and non-conformities with the provisions of this Code
- 5. Procedures to prepare for and respond to emergency situations
- 6. Procedures for internal audits and management reviews"
The SMART Insight system manages all of these requirements through a set of tools that monitor and improve the risk management strategy of an organisation. The SMART Risk Manager provides a structured approach to implement and manage a safety and environmental policy through its template-driven, online hazard register. When linked to the Library module the system can provide a full documentation management system that is available worldwide through any wireless data connection.
Should an incident occur that requires investigation the SMART Occurrence tool can be used to report and track incidents or accidents online through web forms. These forms can be custom built providing full flexibility when tailoring what information is captured.
